May 12-15, 2025: KickOff-Event in Berlin

Our three-day kick-off event took place in person at the Polish Institute in Berlin from May 12-15, 2025. The event brought together 64 participants from 8 European countries, including students from Germany, Poland and Ukraine and at least one representative for each project partner.

The participants explored Berlin's Jewish heritage through a city-wide scavenger hunt, a visit to the Topography of Terror and exploring the region near the Hackescher Markt – a specific focus being the end of World War II and remembrance culture as part of the commemorative year 2025.

During their visit to Berlin, the participants presented Jewish women's stories from their local perspectives – all whilst gaining insights on the EU strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life.

The event also included the first in situ Transnational Partner Meeting, where the project partners discussed further steps for the IMAGINE project.

October 8 and 22, 2025: University student workshops in Vilnius, Lithuania

In October, students from Vilnius University’s Faculty of Communication participated in two educational workshops organized within the IMAGINE project.

On October 8, the session at the Paneriai Memorial introduced students to the history of Lithuanian Jews and the tragedies of Paneriai. Through group work, discussions, and a visit to the memorial’s monuments, participants explored personal stories connected to this site. 32 students took part.

On October 22, activities continued in Vilnius Old Town with the workshop “Vilnius Old Town Tells the Stories of Its Jewish Residents.” Students attended lectures on Jewish life in Vilnius, the Holocaust, and the Vilnius Ghetto, followed by a guided tour of the former Jewish quarter, tracing the lives of Fania Brancovskaja and Marija Rolnikaitė. 25 students participated.

In Lithuania, the IMAGINE project is carried out by the Secretariat of the International Commission in cooperation with Vilnius University’s Faculty of Communication.

November 21-23, 2025: Transnational teacher seminar Krakow, Poland

On November 21-23, Centropa Germany and the Jewish Museum of Galicia co-organized a transnational teacher seminar in Krakow for 25 educators from Serbia, Greece, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Ukraine and Croatia.

The three-day seminar included a keynote lecture on Jewish women in Polish history by Prof. Edyta Gawron, hands-on workshops with Centropa films and with our permanent exhibition „10 Polish cities. 10 Jewish stories“ , a guided tour of the student exhibition "Gizela Fudem - one speaking for many“, and several walking tours through Krakow where participants learned more about the lives of two Centropa interviewees from Krakow, Tosia Silberring and Emilia Leibel.

These impressions paved the way for the local commemoration event, as well as historical reflection workshops on historical knowledge and memory.
