Behind the historical events and tragedies of the 20th century, behind the numbers and statistics, lie individual lives and personal stories. By exploring individual life stories, we can gain a deeper and more personal understanding of the history that connects us all.
During the Centropa Foundation’s professional development training for teachers, we provided educational resources, methods, and professional support for teaching Jewish history and the Holocaust, as well as for developing projects that actively engage students in the learning process. We welcomed applications from primary and secondary school teachers.
During the seminar, we:
- explored Budapest’s Jewish heritage, past and present;
- took part in a Kabbalat Shabbat service and introduced participants to related Jewish traditions;
- presented personal stories and family photographs from the Centropa archive, together with educational resources and methods for using them in the classroom;
- worked together to develop new educational materials;
- introduced Centropa’s travelling exhibitions and educational programs for students, including peer guide trainings, workshops, and a guided city walk.
