For us it's not a History – for us it our lives!

While waching the film about Herbert Lewin my first impression was that the figures were not heroic but after few moments I began to think of my father  who is now 84 years old. My father was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1929 and was forced to leave the public school when the Nazis entered Romania. My grandfather was taken away to a work camp. My father was a member in Gordonia movement and flew to Palestine with the e-legal ship "Knesset Israel". When the ship arrived to Haifa port the British soldiers send them to a camp in Cyprus where they stayed for more than a year. Then after coming to Israel he joined the Hagana and then to the army (Zahal). He built a family and when we where celebrating his 80th birthday he said in front all his grandchildren: "I won them"....So I am asking: Is  Herbert Lewin a hero? Is my father a hero? All who survived the Holocaust an built families - are they heroes?...
