Sultana Yulzari with her sister Matilda Melnik and her daughter Buena Cestnik

These are my sister Matilda Melnik, nee Beniesh, and my daughter Buena Cestnik, nee Yulzari with me. In the picture my daughter is first from left, my sister is in the center and I am to the right. The photo was taken in 2000 in Ruse.

The picture was taken in my house when we were just about to go to Mois's wedding. Then my sister Matilda Sinto Melnik, nee Beniesh, had come back from Houston, USA, where she lives with her family, for the wedding day of my grandson Mois Sinto Yulzari, who is the son of my son Sinto Yulzari.

Beti completed her high-school education in Ruse. After that she went to study in Sofia where she completed her university education as an extramural student at the Mechanical Engineering Institute. She is an engineer. At the moment she is a teacher in 'automated machines' at the Technical High School for Clothing and Footwear.

My sister’s fate is interesting. She carried through her plan of studying medicine in Bulgaria, although my parents were against it because, as I mentioned before, their views on a woman’s place in society and in family were rather conservative.

Mati managed to complete her medical education in Bulgaria, and in 1949 she immigrated to Israel. She continued studying medicine there for three more years, after that she graduated as a doctor, served in the army, and then she immigrated to the USA where she lives with her family down to the present day. Now she is a widow but has an own psychiatric cabinet in Houston and is satisfied. From time to time Mati sends me some money, which helps us make both ends meet in Ruse.
