Sara Pikielna

This picture was taken in Lodz about 1922, and it shows my Grandma, Sara Pikielna. My paternal grandfather was called Abram. He was born in 1865 in Yeremiche. Grandpa Pikielny died in 1923, that is, before I was born. From what I've heard he had his brothers come from the Navahrudak area to Lodz. Grandma's name was Sara. As far as I know she was the only one in our family to observe the kosher rules. I remember going with her at the high holidays to the synagogue on Kosciuszki Street - the Germans burned it down immediately after taking Lodz - to the women's part of it of course. I don't know how Grandma died. I was only told she sold cookies in the streets of the Warsaw ghetto, just to get by. My grandparents had at least three daughters and at least three sons. They were all married and had children.
