Rachel Averbukh and kindergarten friends

This is a picture of me and my classmates at the private Jewish children’s group in Pskov that I attended for three years, starting when I was three.

Nowadays they would call it a private kindergarten. My parents paid the German governess, whom you see at the center. I do not remember her name. She taught us the German language and took us on walks. She was a very kind lady and we loved her very much.

I can't remember now who took this photo, and there's nothing written on the reverse side, but I remember the names of a few of the kids.

To the far right is my friend Asya Kitova, next is Natasha Rummel, to the right and above stands Asya Polyakova, to the left of the governess stands Asya Shvedskaya - with a bow on her head. I do not remember the others. I am second from the left.

There were very many Jews in Pskov before the war. In Yedinstva Street there was a synagogue, I remember it perfectly. It was wooden building on a hill, not so large, approximately for 100 persons.

I went to the synagogue only on holidays. I remember what the rabbi looked like, and I remember his daughters; we were friends with his girls, but I can’t remember their names.
