Mikhail Volok

This is my brother Mikhail Volok. This photo was taken in Philadelphia in 1996.

Mikhail was born in Cimislia in 1909. Mikhail served in the Romanian army since Bessarabians were Romanian citizens. Later he finished three years of Rovno Teachers' Training College.  When the war began in 1941 Mikhail was mobilized to the labor army. After the war Mikhail and his family lived in Kishinev. He worked as an accountant in the housing agency. Mikhail moved to Israel in the 1970s. I remember how his son Grigoriy went to Moscow to obtain a permit for departure and even asked Sakharov for help. I remember that we didn't go to the railway station to see Mikhail and his family off since we were afraid. My brother understood it. He knew it might cause problems for us at work. In the 1980s Grigoriy married an American Jewish woman and they moved to Philadelphia in the USA. Mikhail died in Philadelphia in 2002.
