Mihail Mihaylov and Matilda Mihaylova

This is a photo from the visit of my mother Matilda Mihaylova, nee Kohen, to my father Mihail Mihaylov in the town of Dabnitsa in 1940. During World War II my father wasn?t sent to a labor camp, but as early as 1940 he was interned to Dabnitsa near the town of Nevrokop [today Gotse Delchev in Southwest Bulgaria]. My father was interned there after the adoption of the repressive measures against the Jews. The reason for the internment was that he was a Jew and a factory owner. When he lived there, he had to report to the municipality every evening and sign his name. My mother had requested a special permit from the police to visit my father. My father had a socks factory. During the rule of the pro-German government in Bulgaria, his factory was confiscated and given to new owners. When my father was interned to Dabnitsa, my older sister Luisa and I worked in my father's factory. We received wages depending on our production quota.
