Michal Nadel with his grandson Jakub

This is me and my grandson Jakub. The photo was taken in Lodz in 1982 but I don’t remember who took it.

Kuba [short for Jakub] is Aleksander’s son. He comes from Copenhagen, but studies in Warsaw. He is finishing medicine. He’s father wasn’t raised in the Jewish tradition, but was interested, and still is interested in Jewish history. I know and I noticed that he knows the history really well. It's a different matter with Jakub. Olek [short for Aleksander], when he settled in Copenhagen, influenced by friends, got closer to the Jewish tradition. He doesn't know Jewish or Hebrew, but had a bar mitzvah and circumcisions for his sons. So Kuba is circumcised, but at the moment everything is foreign to him anyway. Anyway formally he is a Jew. We have a very good contact with each other.
