Kushel and Lyonya Finberg at May 1 demonstration

My husband Kushel Finberg and our son Leonid (10 years old) with my husband's friends. The photo was taken at the May 1 Demonstration in Kiev in 1958. We celebrated Soviet holidays: May 1, October Revolution, and our favorite New Year; we all decorated our New Year tree with handmade toys. Family holidays were not encouraged very much, bur rather revolutionary, public holidays, which were celebrated with good cheer. The Day of Great October Revolution and May 1 were always celebrated with a military parade and demonstration with red flags, portraits of Soviet leaders, and pioneer songs - we loved all of that very much. I don't remember celebrating Jewish holidays before the war.
