Jacques and Mary Perets

This is a photo of my uncle Jacques Perets, a brother of my mother, and his wife Mary, taken in Plovdiv in the 1910s. My mother, Rebecca Solomon Yulzari, nee Perets, was born in Asenovgrad as all her other siblings. She was the oldest child in the family. She had two brothers - Israel Perets and Jacques Perets and three sisters - Regina, Sophie, Mazal. At first my mother's parents lived with their children in Asenovgrad, but later they moved to Plovdiv. After some time Jacques went to live in Sofia. He was a leather worker in Sofia. I remember that before Jacques married Mary he had a fiancé in Sofia. She was extraordinarily beautiful. They were very happy and they loved each other a lot. But then a tragedy happened: She was short-sighted and so once when she lit a gas stove, she didn't see that there was already a flame in there. She continued to feed gas and then a flame jumped so high that it burned her severely. Soon after that she died from her wounds. My uncle never overcame her death. Not long afterwards he got married again. He loved his wife, a good woman, but I think that he never forgot the lovely Anushka.
