Funeral ceremony of Dorah Khutoretskaya

This is a photograph of my relatives, who were present at the funeral of Aunt Dorah Khutoretskaya (nee Ugoleva), my father's sister. It happened approximately in 1980. Almost all Ugolevs and Khutoretskys attended the funeral.

From the left: Dorah's grandson Mark, Dorah's children Maya Unussova and Semen Khutoretsky, Dorah's sister Esther-Slava Epstein, Semen's wife Nina, my wife Elena and I. In the second row: Maya's husband Nizon Unussov, son of Esther-Slava Lev Epstein, his wife Adel Belkina and others. I don’t remember who they are.

It is a pity that recently members of our family manage to gather only for such sad events. And at present this sort of events happen more and more often.

My father's sister Dorah was born in 1906; after her marriage she was Khutoretskaya. After the war her husband Yosif Khutoretsky was the director of a sovkhoz in Luga district near Leningrad. Before the war he held the position of administrative deputy director at the Veterinary College. Dorah and Yosif had two children: Semen, born in 1927, and Maya, born in 1932. Their father Yosif also was at the front and returned home. Before the war he served at the railway guard forces, Fontanka embankment, 117. During the war he served in railway troops. During the war Dorah took Semen and Maya to Yoshkar-Ola.

The youngest sister of my father, Esther-Slava was born in 1919. She died in 1999. She had a son Lev, three grandsons (Irina, Mikhail and Ilya), and one great-grandson Mark, a son of Mikhail. I remember Irina as a little girl, but now we are not in touch. Lev, her father, informs me about the way she lives. I didn’t find any special opportunity to visit Israel until 1989, and I didn’t even try because of my laziness. Though I guess it could have been an interesting trip.
