Ernest Galpert with schoolmates during a meeting with Eduard Benes, President of Czechoslovakia

This is me with my schoolmates near the military barracks in Mukachevo during a meeting with the President of Czechoslovakia, Eduard Benes. I am the one wearing a black coat and a black beret, first on the left in the first row. The photo was taken in Mukachevo in 1935. In 1935 Benes became president of Czechoslovakia. After he was elected he visited Mukachevo. There was a meeting in the yard of the military barracks. All the residents of Mukachevo came to the meeting. Our school was also there and the schoolchildren had flags to greet the president. Benes had the same policy regarding the protection of human rights of Jews that his predecessor Masaryk had.
