Oto Konstein’s maternal family

This picture was taken in Lipik, I am not sure about the exact year, but possibly around 1935/1936.

My maternal grandmother Malvina Heimer spent couple of weeks in Lipik. There was thermal bath and she was sent there for curing therapy. While she was there, her children came to visit her, and this is seen in this photo.

My grandmother Malvina is the second from left. Standing next to her is my mother Vilma. Standing on the other side is my mother’s uncle Bela Heimer, and next to him his wife Ivka, and their daughter Verica is sitting in front.

The picture is probably taken in the garden, next to a fountain. They are dressed nice and elegant, especially my mother wearing a white dress. It was such an opportunity to wear nice clothing: going to another town and visiting the grandmother.

My mother had 2 brothers; the eldest brother Bela Heimer the one who is in this picture, was born in 1901. He lived in Varazdin and worked in a silk factory.

He was married to Ivka Heimer and they had one daughter named Verica. They were all murdered in the war - his wife and daughter died in 1941 Loborgrad and Bela died in Jasenovac in 1942.

My grandmother Malvina, born around 1877, was a housewife. I remember that both maternal grandfather and grandmother looked very old to me.

Even though they died young, at the age of around 60, they looked older than they actually were, as if they grew old before their time. The grandfather is not in this picture, I think that he had already died.
