In this picture you can see Adolf Gluck, my mother's maternal grandfather. The photo was taken in Budapest in 1896. My great-grandfather graduated from commercial school and was an insurance agent. His first wife, Franciska Grad, died of pulmonary tuberculosis at a relatively young age. After her death, her husband, Adolf Gluck came to Pest with the children and remarried. His second wife was Mari Albachari, a Sephardi Jew, whose family had emigrated or fled from Spain. This supposedly happened several centuries ago, but she was remembered because of her looks, her name or who knows what, and my mother referred to her as the 'Spanish woman.' This picture was taken when Adolf and his wife Mari went to see the millennial exhibition in Budapest. I still have the 'document' of their visit. Two thick polished glass goblets, with engraved inscription: Memory from Os Budavar, 1896. On one of the Adolf Gluck's, on the other one Mari Gluck's initials are engraved. They used their name in a German way, first the first name, then the last name. The initials are nicely woven together: AG and MG.
