Max Rosenberg’s tombstone

This is the tombstone of my father’s brother, Max Rosenberg in the Jewish cemetery in Bacau. He was born in 1890, the youngest of three children. My father was the middle child, and they had an elder sister, Toni.

My father's brother was born in the countryside, in Bacau County. He lived and died in Bacau. I know he attended high school for a while, but didn’t graduate, and then went on to work all his life as an accountant for a large wholesale store owned by a man named Hirsenbaun. My father's brother was highly esteemed in our town and was the best accountant in whole Moldavia! He once participated in a contest where all the others were graduates of the Commerce Academy, and although he had only done three years of high school, he won it! He wasn't very religious, very devout. He married a Jewish girl from Bacau, Rosa Stormann. They didn’t have any children.

My father’s brother died in 1932, at the age of 42, and was burried in the local Jewish cemetery.
