February 20, 1856 represents in Romania, the date of slavery of the Roma, based on the law made by King Barbu Ştirbei. February 20, 2021 marks 165 years since the liberation of the Roma, the Day of the Liberation of the Roma representing a very important event for the Roma community.To mark this moment, the students of the Iulia Hasdeu Lugoj Theoretical High School carried out a series of activities based on the materials provided by the Community Development Agency Foundation "Together" on the QIE platform - Quality Inclusive Education. The activities took place online.
On January 27, 2021, took place a brief ceremonyin to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust in the courtyard of Liceul Teoretic Iulia Hasdeu Lugoj to mark the International Holocaust Rememberance Day. In the days before this activity, the students searched for information about the victims involved in this dreadful event. During the ceremony, the students presented the name of one victim and pices of information about their life, as a past recollection – not to be forgotten.
On Monday, 20.01.2021, took place the first activity of the project Meet Me Halfway (Meet Me in Vienna), project in which the students from Liceul Teoretic „Iulia Hasdeu” Lugoj are working together with the students from Vestal Senior High School, Vestal, New York, USA. Coordinated by history teachers Karen Doolittle and Horațiu Suciu, the students from both high schools met online in order to know each other and discussed about the way in which the pandemic affected them. They have set a date for the following joint activities.
Between October and November 2020, within the Iulia Hasdeu Lugoj Theoretical High School, the project of the Hasdeu Student Film Festival (FFEH 8) took place. This was the eighth edition of FFEH and the first to take place exclusively online. In this project, the students from Hasdeu, from the 9th, 10th, 12th and 12th D grades, made short videos with the theme “My family history”, using old photos and interviews with grandparents.
October 9 represents, in Romania, the National Holocaust Remembrance Day. To commemorate this tragic event, between September and October 2020, at the Iulia Hasdeu Lugoj High School, took place the project „Holocaust through the eyes of children”. In this project, the students from HasdEU made posters, collages, drawings or paintings with the theme Children in the Holocaust (and / or the Holocaust). Given the conditions, the contest took place online.
75 years after the liberation of the extermination camp from Auschwitz, on January 27, on the occasion of the International Day of Holocaust Remembrance, the students of the Theoretical High School "Iulia Hasdeu" Lugoj resumed the project "Lights in the Dark". Students in the 11th grade, involved in the project, are seeking information about the victims of the Holocaust and about the Auschwitz camp. Divided into groups, students made cardboard cubes, white or black, on the cover of which they cut the figure 75. Inside the cubes were glued images with the Auschwitz camp.
On Tuesday, 19 March 2019, at Liceul Teoretic Iulia Hasdeu Lugoj, took place the activity „At Home with Anne Frank”. The students of the class X D involved in this activity learnt about the rights and the civil liberties and about the consequences of the violation of those rights and civil liberties done by the totalitarian regime.
For the International Holocaust Remembrance Day (27 of January) and the victims of the Pogrom of Bucharest (21-23 January 1941), the students from the High School „Iulia Hasdeu” Lugoj have participated in January 2019 in the project entitled „Glimmers in the Night of the Holocaust”. The students involved in this project have engraved, by cropping, a series of notions and terms related to the Holocaust on cardboard cylinders.
On November 15, 2018, HasdEU Students' Film Festival - 6th edition was held. Within the framework of the FFEH6 project, 70 students from the "Iulia Hasdeu" High School in Lugoj have produced 5-7 minute films about the history of their own family. Besides interviews with grandparents and parents, students used old family photographs to make these films. The best films were awarded with diplomas and prizes in objects with the logo of the event.
