Centropa Seminar in Belgrade

35 participants from the Western Balkans attended our 12th regional teacher training seminar “Teaching Jewish History, the Holocaust and Interreligious Tolerance in the Western Balkans" at Cultural Center Parobrod in Belgrade, December 14-16.

During the seminar, we opened our Sarajevo exhibition with special guests including Igor Kozemjakin of the Interreligious Council of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Sabine Kroissenbrunner, Deputy Ambassador of Austria. The participants also visited the former German concentration camp Staro Sajmiste and then explored the Dorcol neighborhood where the Kalef family used to live; later during the seminar, the teachers worked on lesson plans how to incorporate Centropa's films and exhibition into their classes. Lecturers included Loranda Miletic from Senior Advisor for Teacher Training at ETTA, Croatia, Biljana Stojanovic, Representative of the Serbian Education Ministry,  Goran Sadikarijo, Director of the Holocaust Memorial Center in Skopje, and Igor Kozemjakin from the Interreligious Council of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Special guests included Johannes Irschik of the Austrian Cultural Forum, Tony Rodriguez of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, our interviewee Hana Gasic, and Esther Baier. Special thanks to Jelena Krucicanin, our Serbian coordinator, and to our supporters - the German Embassy, the Austrian Embassy, the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany - and to Cultural Center Parobrod for hosting our exhibition and seminar.
