Mendel Wojdyslawski

This is my father Mendel Wojdyslawski. The photo was taken in the 1930s, but I don’t know when and where exactly.

I don't know anything about my grandmother and grandfather from my father's side. Grandfather was not alive ever since I remember. My father's name was Mendel.

He was born in Strykow near Lodz. Before we went to school, he changed his last name to Mother's maiden name and since that time his name was Wojdyslawski.

Irena Wojdyslawska with friends from the Psychiatric Clinic

This is me and my friends from Psychiatric Clinic: Ryszard Krasilewicz and Adam Bukowczyk. The photo was taken in the 1960s. At that time we were all working as teachers in that Psychiatric Clinic.

In 1951 I completed my coursework, in 1952 I received my diploma. Ever since I started my studies I knew I would choose psychiatry as my specialization.

Irena Wojdyslawska

This is me in 1929. I was 8 years old at the time of the photo. The photo was taken in Lodz in some studio but I don’t remember where exactly.

I was born on May 9th 1921, in a house on 1 Maja Street 9, where I lived until we moved out to the ghetto. That was my aunt's house. We had three rooms and a kitchen, arranged one behind the other.

And when Father was starting out with his business, the tailoring workshop was located in the third room. Later it was my sister's and my room.

Irena Wojdyslawska with her mother Chawa and sister Franciszka

This is me, my mother and my sister. My mother is sitting in the middle, my sister - from the left and I - from the right.

The photo was taken when I was 7 maybe 8 years old, so in 1929 or 1930, in Lodz, in some studio, but I don’t remember where.

Staff of the Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital in Lodz

This are my colleagues from the Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital in Lodz. None of them were Jews. The photo was taken in Lodz, in 1952.

In 1951 I completed my coursework, in 1952 I received my diploma. Ever since I started my studies I knew I would choose psychiatry as my specialization.

I worked on my first specialization for three years, then another three years for the second specialization. In 1961 I submitted my doctoral dissertation.

Irena Wojdyslawska and her best friend Ryszard Krasilewicz

This is me and my best friend Ryszard Krasilewicz. He was my colleague in Psychiatric Hospital.

I think that that photo was taken in the 1960’s or at the end of the 1950’s, but I don’t remember exactly. I also don’t remember who took it, maybe some friend of mine?

In 1951 I gave birth to a daughter, Janka. I was very happy, because I wanted to have a daughter. She was an illegitimate child. I don't admit who the father is, because his children have no idea that he has a child with me.

Janina Wojdyslawska-Wald’s first communion

This is my daughter Janina Wojdyslawska-Wald on her first communion day. The photo was taken in Aleksandrow in 1959, but I don’t remember who took it.

I was at fault very much, because I got involved with Ryszard. I even arranged his admission to the clinic. We saw each other every day at work and after work. Ryszard was Janka's Godfather.

Koppel and Fajgla Gringras

This is a photograph of my parents, Koppel and Fajgla Gringras, on vacation in Krynica - I guess, because they are holding glasses [Krynica is a spa resort].

Father is standing second from the right and Mother next to him. I think it could have been 1938, no earlier.

Father's name was Koppel according to the official papers. Later that was changed to Jozef, but he was still known as Koppel, like the hero of one of Singer's novels [The Family Moskat].

My father was the owner of the ‘Moderne’ photographic studio. It was a long road.
