The engagement photo of Shellie Sasson and Mario Moshe

This photo was taken on the engagement day of my mother’s brother, Mario Moshe, and Shellie Sasson in 1932.

Mario was born in 1902. He lived in Thessaloniki since 1933. A year earlier he got engaged to Shellie Sasson.

They married on 23th September 1933 and after their wedding they moved to Athens.

After the occupation of Greece by th Nazis they made the decision to go into hiding to avoid capture by the Nazis.

They were hiding in different apartments, my uncle Mario in a place close to Acropolis. Shellie had studied in Germany and knew German.

That’s why she was capable to find a job as nursemaid in a Christian family. They both survived the Holocaust.
