Mira Cotin and Dan Mizrahy with cousins

The photograph was taken during one of our vacations in Timisul de Jos [mountain resort in Brasov County]. From left to right: my sister, Mira Cotin [nee Mizrahy], two cousins, Nelly and Costel Grozea, then me, Dan Mizrahy.

I was born in 1926 in Bucharest. My sister Mira was born in 1923 in Bucharest. She was a quiet child and a pupil loved and respected by her schoolmates.

Costel Grozea, a distant relative of my mother's, who is two or three years older than me, was a sort of guardian for me in 1941, when I arrived in Israel. He volunteered for the British army, took part in the landing in Sicily, sank with a transport ship that was torpedoed by the Germans, was rescued and returned to fight on the front. He took part in the landing in Salerno, fought, fell in love… and married an Italian woman, after which we totally lost track of him.
