Silvia Haim

This is Silvia Haim, the daughter of Rachelle Haim, nee Abravanel, who was my mother's older sister. Silvia was almost 20 years old when this picture was taken, just before the war, in a studio in Thessaloniki. During the period of the ghetto we were renting a house in Broufa Street together with Aunt Rachelle and her kids. There were five of us and despite the war it was a happy period for us. Silvia during the war left with her older sister Rene and her brother Nadir for Israel and they disappeared. It was during the journey by boat from Greece to Turkey, the same journey I later made myself. Were they attacked? Were they bombed? Were they betrayed? We never found out, the fact is that they disappeared.
