Albertos Beraha's family in Portaria

This picture was taken in Portaria in Pelion, around 1939.

My father, Carolos Beraha, is on the left and my mother, Mathilda Beraha, nee Saporta and her sister, Sarah Saporta, are on the right, and

I am in the front of the fountain, which is located in the center of the village.

My family would go either to Florina or Pelion for holidays. We were in Pelion when the war was declared and I remember the panic among the tourists there.

Loads of Greeks from Egypt were on vacation there and suddenly they all found themselves in the middle of the war zone and so they all hurried to the ports to get boats back to Egypt.
