Ferenc Pap's brother, Andras Pap

[Ferenc Pap's brother is in the photo.] He was born in 1937 in Temesvar. At the end of the 1940s and beginning of the 1950s there were so-called talent scouts. At the school he went to, they discovered that he was suitable for dancing. My mother, who was an old hand at the profession, stood pat against it, she didn't want her son to be a dancer. In spite of all that, my brother went to the choreography school in Kolozsvar. In the 1950's, when he had to do his army service, he was lucky. He didn't attend a university; after a short training he got into the Military Band of Kolozsvar, where he danced. After that for a short time he was a ballet dancer in the Hungarian Opera, then for a longer time, till 1969, he was a member of the Romanian Opera's ballet chorus. In 1969 he went to America, from 1973 he has lived in Philadelphia and teaches in the ballet section of the School of Performing Arts. He got married there in America, he has an American Jewish wife, but I don't think they observe Jewish traditions. They don't even keep the relationship with the Philadelphian Jews. Their friends are Gentiles.
