Alberto and Roza Benveniste at the beach

This photograph was taken in 1936 in Perea, Thessaloniki. it is a photo of myself and my brother Alberto Benveniste during the summer of 1936.

I had an older brother Alberto who was born in 1916, whom we nearly lost during the mobilization. My brother Albert fell in love with a girl that wasn't of our class you could say, but because he had gone through so much by then and we thought we might loose him, we didn't make a fuss about it. In the meantime there was the war going on, so we wouldn't pay attention to such details. His wife was the only one that did not go to the concentration camps. He later had two girls. He left Greece during World War II and went to Israel, where he owned a dry cleaning facility, and where he died in 2004.
