This is my paternal grandfather, Mozes Izsak. The photo was taken in Szatmarnemeti in 1900.
He was born in 1850 and he was the first one of our extended family to be registered in the birth register of the Szatmar Jewish community. According to this his father was Iczik Izsak, an artist, and his mother was Eszter Katz. We didn't know anything else about them, my father's brothers didn't remember either whether their father had any siblings or not. As far as they knew the family had come to Szatmar from the surroundings of Strasbourg, France or from the Netherlands, and not a very long time before.
Mozes Izsak married Hani Steiner at the age of 22, as a student. I don?t know where he studied, but probably at some technical college, because his profession was assistant engineer, and he worked as a draftsman at an engineer's office.
