Maurice Leon with his classmates

This photo was taken in 1925 outside my first school, Alchech School, in Thessaloniki, at the end of the school year, to have it as a memoir. Mrs. Molho found this photograph and gave it to me. This was a Jewish school. It was an old building on Ermondou Rostand Street, if I remember well. We had very good teachers. We had someone called Leitmer, who was teaching Mathematics, and Polichronopoulos, who was teaching Greek. The lessons were taught in Greek and French. We celebrated all Jewish holidays at school. We were also taught Hebrew and Jewish religion by someone called Stroumsa. My favorite lessons were History and Greek. The professor I liked most was the mathematician, Mr. Leitmer. He was from Belgium. He was teaching maths in French. He was very good. In the first row, from right to left, the second is Solon Molho, next is Joseph Nissim and then it's me Maurice Leon. In the second row I don?t remember anybody. In the third row, from right to left, the second is Nina Uziel, fourth is Barzilai, sixth and seventh are the Cohen sisters and ninth is Acher.
